Gurmat Camp 2002
What follows is a press release from the Sikh Times dated August 8, 2002
for Gurmat Camp 2002...

Nightingales would have been jealous of the performance given by the children at the Jubilee camp at Chigwell Essex, run by the Sikh Missionary Society, for a week, the venue was the Guru Gobind Singh Ji College hidden in this tranqui countryside in acres of greenery, all the children had a fun filled week packed with keertan, prayer, recital of Gurbani, lectures by great people such as the likes of Gyani Gurbaksh Singh Gulshan, who also had the honour of presenting the trophies to the campers, the children also had the fortune to listen to Dya Singh and his jatha who is accompanied by great musicians from Australia.

"This Year we had a full team of Group leaders, all of whom contributed to the success of the camp" said Lilly, one of the camp organisers.

"I congratulate the parents children and the Sikh Missionary Society for holding such an informative camp" - Gyani Gurbaksh Singh Gulshan

Which in turn lead to a far more relaxed tone, contributing to the success of the camp. Reciting Kirtan in the grounds at sunset, sitting around a campfire, visiting Chessington were some of the activities the children enjoyed during the week. Each and every child enjoyed their week whilst learning the basics of Sikhi to such a level that they can read the Guru Granth Sahib.

Mohinder Singh Chahal M.A who is the secretary of the Sikh Missionary Society commented "The Children were very much composed and had taken heed of the words of wisdom despite their tender years, how much of this wisdom they will take with them only time will tell, but there is no doubt that these will be leaders of the future" he said, many parent would feel proud they made the decision to send the siblings to the Gurmat Sikh camp. Each group leader was given the opportunity to aware trophies to three children in their group.
